Introduction
UWC Maastricht was founded in 2009 as the merger of two existing international schools, International School Maastricht, and the International Primary School Joppenhof. It follows the model of offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma within the context of a larger school, providing students of other ages the opportunity to gain a UWC experience. The introduction of the IB Middle Years Programme will also enhance the Internationality of the whole academic programme.

Campus and facilities
The school is situated on the existing International School Maastricht campus, situated in the east of the city. A new campus is being built and will be ready by 2012. Facilities on the current campus include modern classrooms, science labs, fully equipped music and art rooms, a computer lab, an IT equipped study centre, two gyms, one with a climbing wall, and a canteen. By 2015, UWC Maastricht will educate 950 students, 200 of whom will be selected by UWC national committees on scholarships. The residential students will live in spacious accommodation in the centre of the city until the new residences are completed in 2012/2013.

Beyond the classroom
UWC Maastricht has ambitious outreach plans and will serve as a centre for expertise for community services (CECS) and a centre for short courses. The CECS will be developed on campus and will be open not only for students at UWC Maastricht but also for students and staff from other schools. The Dutch Minister of Education expects UWC Maastricht to act as a role model for other Dutch schools, with the integration of community services, by imparting its passion for and expertise in service learning to the Dutch system.
